Rob Mills fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Duke Quinane having to interfere. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Kangaroo's goalkeeper Everett Gwin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rob Mills stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 52 played minutes, Buchanan's Elliot Butterfield shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Everett Gwin came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. Kangaroo's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Myles Dollamore ran over to the corner to take the kick.
