Fleming Willis hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Dan Hunter showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elliott Turnbull, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. With his leg Dan Hunter managed to avoid a goal in the 25thth minute, when Latrobe's Jess Kinnaird fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 35th minute of the match Bennett James shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dan Hunter showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Dan Hunter made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Elliott Turnbull sent off a good shot on target. Jess Kinnaird in the 49thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Dan Hunter, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Elliott Turnbull to make the kick off. In the 79th minute Elliott Turnbull shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dan Hunter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jess Kinnaird might have been able to make a better finish in the 81st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dan Hunter. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jess Kinnaird ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jess Kinnaird in the 81st minute of play forced Lawnswood's goalkeeper Dan Hunter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Jess Kinnaird came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Latrobe fans jumped to their feet.
