Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Potter Odonahoo made the kick off and thus started the match. Mayfield's Potter Odonahoo got a good chance for a goal in the 5th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice moves Arne Flisfeder could shoot a difficult shot in the 11th minute, which Ernest Pegrum however easily saved by the left post. If Berkeley Loch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Mayfield's zone, Bud Dobson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dacosta Murphy came out of the goal and Bud Dobson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bud Dobson during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Bud Dobson kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Wodonga United's Ernest Pegrum proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Wodonga United from getting a goal against them. Arne Flisfeder could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Ernest Pegrum made a huge save. 37 minutes into the match, Mayfield's goal looked a bit too open when Barth Cootes came free, but Dacosta Murphy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind Mayfield's goalkeeper Dacosta Murphy, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of Wodonga United booed when Mayfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pete Beverley didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Mayfield's zone, Barth Cootes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dacosta Murphy came out of the goal and Barth Cootes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bud Dobson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Barth Cootes to make the kick off. When Bud Dobson came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Wodonga United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bud Dobson couldn't finish the play. Berkeley Loch charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Berkeley Loch the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 55 played minutes Wodonga United got a freekick which was hit by Berkeley Loch. 60 minutes into the game, Mayfield's Arne Flisfeder nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ernest Pegrum made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Potter Odonahoo took the ball and in the 64 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ernest Pegrum. Ernest Pegrum dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Dacosta Murphy made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bud Dobson in the 72nd minute of play. In the 73rd match minute, Mayfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Potter Odonahoo to maneuver through the defense. Bud Dobson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Dacosta Murphy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Arne Flisfeder had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 81 minutes into the game, Bud Dobson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Dacosta Murphy was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After having played for 85 minutes, Bud Dobson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Wodonga United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bud Dobson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 86th minute Bud Dobson suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. Brannan Serena hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. When Arne Flisfeder came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Mayfield fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arne Flisfeder couldn't finish the play. Wodonga United's Ernest Pegrum played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Potter Odonahoo in the 92nd minute of play. 93 minutes into the match, Wodonga United's goal looked a bit too open when Potter Odonahoo came free, but Ernest Pegrum reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Berkeley Loch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Many of Wodonga United's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Wodonga United may have spent more time on the ball, but Mayfield were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
