Ernest Pegrum tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 40 minutes into the match, Wodonga United's Berkeley Loch sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Brayden Kayrooz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Berkeley Loch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

After taking down the ball on Japoon's corner Battle Hines fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Ernest Pegrum quite easily take care of the ball. After 67 played minutes Wodonga United got a freekick which was hit by Bud Dobson. Carmichael Solomon took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 68th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ernest Pegrum. Wodonga United's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Battle Hines struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Ernest Pegrum didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Japoon. With his leg Ernest Pegrum managed to avoid a goal in the 72ndth minute, when Japoon's Battle Hines fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Barth Cootes kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. Ernest Pegrum showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Logan Ashby, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Battle Hines sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Battle Hiness short, quick shot in the 96thth minute got Ernest Pegrum to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The Wodonga United supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Japoon's performance. The match ended with a win for Japoon.
