Kainton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Birrell Salcedo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 23 minutes into the match, Queenscliff's goalkeeper Browne Houldsworth had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Baxter Behla. Baxter Behla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Queenscliff's Browne Houldsworth proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Queenscliff from getting a goal against them. Carter Smoothy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Craig Clack, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Queenscliff's zone, Baxter Behla stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. After some careless play in the Kainton defense, Kris Nolan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Carter Smoothy. The Kainton fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Carter Smoothy should have stopped the shot. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

In the 54th match minute, Kainton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Everett Kinsey to maneuver through the defense. After 55 minutes, Craig Clack made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. Kainton's Carter Smoothy tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 69thth minute of the game Birrell Salcedo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Queenscliff's Browne Houldsworth was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 73rd minute Birrell Salcedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Browne Houldsworth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
