Spectators: 6000 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Bert Johnson kicked off to start the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 3rd minute, Edwardo Ross managed to get in a good position for a shot. Palmerston North Pirates's supporters rose to their feet, but Edwardo Ross was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Peter Trezise breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the Kiras Krusaders defense, Edwardo Ross kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Peter Trezise. The Kiras Krusaders fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Peter Trezise should have stopped the shot. Paco Duncan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Battle Block having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Kiras Krusaders's Jason Loch got a free kick in the 15th minute. Edwardo Ross scored 2-0 in the 17th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Peter Trezise, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Kiras Krusaders booed when Palmerston North Pirates was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tobie Parryman didn't get a good kick on the ball. 23 minutes into the game, Kiras Krusaders's Paco Duncan nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Battle Block made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Carlisle Allcock sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edwardo Ross sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 30 minutes, Edmundson Sibbold mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kiras Krusaders and the Palmerston North Pirates players grew even worse after the yellow card. With a little luck, Kiras Krusaders's Peter Trezise got control of the ball when Edwardo Ross tried to sneak it across the goal line. Paco Duncan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Kiras Krusaders's Norm Shortus got a free kick in the 45th minute. Peter Trezise was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Bert Johnson showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-1 in the 46 minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Carlisle Allcock to strike the kick off in the second half. Edmundson Sibbold kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. Kiras Krusaders's Peter Trezise played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bert Johnson in the 56th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edwardo Ross in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Peter Trezise saved Kiras Krusaders from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Kiras Krusaders's zone, Edwardo Ross stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Peter Trezise came out of the goal and Edwardo Ross tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Edwardo Ross received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Peter Trezise tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edwardo Ross struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Peter Trezise didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Palmerston North Pirates. Peter Trezise didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edwardo Ross went, in the 70th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-1 was the resulting score. In the 76th minute Bert Johnson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter Trezise saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 84th minute, Bert Johnson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Peter Trezise was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-1. After 90 minutes Palmerston North Pirates's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Norm Shortus who took care of the corner kick. Fabrizio Flisfeder was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Palmerston North Pirates had won after a very even match.
