Battle Block tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 23 minutes into the match Darell Weatherby climbed in front of goal and pressed up 1-0 in the right cross behind a totally surprised Battle Block. If Baxter Limmer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Byron Connolly showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edwardo Ross, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Palmerston North Pirates's Battle Block proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save Palmerston North Pirates from getting a goal against them. Munroe Bodimeade took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 37th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Battle Block. Palmerston North Pirates's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Billy Hanlen's late challenge caught a Hamos Heroes's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Billy Hanlen helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Hamos Heroes booed when Palmerston North Pirates was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Billy Hanlen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hamos Heroes's Darell Weatherby got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Billy Hanlen kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baxter Limmer in the 45th minute of play forced Palmerston North Pirates's goalkeeper Battle Block to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Baxter Limmer to make the kick off. After some careless play in the Palmerston North Pirates defense, Baxter Limmer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Battle Block. The Palmerston North Pirates fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Battle Block should have stopped the shot. When the match had gone on for 83 minutes, Bert Johnson took a quick shot and it went in 3-1 without a chance for Byron Connolly to make any attempt to save it. 87 minutes into the match, Palmerston North Pirates's goal looked a bit too open when Darell Weatherby came free, but Battle Block reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Baxter Limmer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Battle Block having to interfere. After having played for 93 minutes, Baxter Limmer managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hamos Heroes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Baxter Limmer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the Palmerston North Pirates players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Hamos Heroes.
