The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 9 minutes into the game, Gold Coast FC's Edmund Hodson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcus Keam made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 13th minute Damon Peplow shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcus Keam saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Gold Coast FC booed when Edgecombe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Randle Whittington didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 16th minute, Rusty Mcjenkins fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Murphey Mcroberts, passed just outside the right post. If Edmund Hodson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Craig Mccartan kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. 31 minutes into the game, Gold Coast FC's Edmund Hodson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcus Keam made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. 34 minutes into the match, Gold Coast FC's goal looked a bit too open when Rusty Mcjenkins came free, but Murphey Mcroberts reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Edmund Hodson notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Edgecombe's Marcus Keam. Marcus Keam was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 42 minutes into the game, Gold Coast FC's Damon Peplow nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcus Keam made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. Edmund Hodson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Marcus Keam tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Damon Peplow stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Gold Coast FC's goalkeeper Murphey Mcroberts, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Damon Peplow received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Marcus Keam tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edmund Hodson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Marcus Keam made a huge save. In the 63rdth minute of the game Damon Peplow who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Edgecombe's Marcus Keam was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 65th play minutes Edmund Hodson shot 1-5, a short shot which went by Marcus Keam and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 67th minute, Damon Peplow got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Damon Peplow came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Gold Coast FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damon Peplow couldn't finish the play. Edmund Hodson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Randle Whittington's late challenge caught a Gold Coast FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Randle Whittington helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Edgecombe getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Randle Whittington hit a great ball. Marcus Keam came out of the goal in the 91st minute to try and stop a shot by Gold Coast FC's Edmund Hodson. But to his dismay, Edmund Hodson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-7. Randle Whittington kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. With a little luck, Edgecombe's Marcus Keam got control of the ball when Edmund Hodson tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match was over Gold Coast FC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Edgecombe throughout the match.
