The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 3 minutes of play, Perth Glory's Rodd Powell made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Edgar Coldicutt was left in no man's land by his defense there! Edgar Coldicutt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alvin Watman, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. After 8 minutes, Rudolph Staggard mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gold Coast City FC and the Perth Glory players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 8th match minute, Gold Coast City FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rudolph Staggard to maneuver through the defense. If Tiger Conlan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Gold Coast City FC's zone, Tiger Conlan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edgar Coldicutt came out of the goal and Tiger Conlan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 28th minute, Rodd Powell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 34 minutes into the match, Gold Coast City FC's goal looked a bit too open when Alvin Watman came free, but Edgar Coldicutt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 41 minutes into the match, Perth Glory's Tiger Conlan sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Edgar Coldicutt narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Paz Coote had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th minute, Otto Mcvey left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Gold Coast City FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Tiger Conlan charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tiger Conlan the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Rodd Powell recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Edgar Coldicutt made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alvin Watman in the 62nd minute. With a little luck, Gold Coast City FC's Edgar Coldicutt got control of the ball when Alvin Watman tried to sneak it across the goal line. 65 minutes into the game, Tiger Conlan recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Edgar Coldicutt. Tiger Conlan showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. In the 71st minute, Paz Coote got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 72 minutes, Berne Mcmahon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Perth Glory and the Gold Coast City FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Berne Mcmahon hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Paz Coote struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Tom Grieve didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gold Coast City FC. Tiger Conlan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Berne Mcmahon was shown his second yellow card after 81 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Berne Mcmahon kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. If Otto Mcvey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 94 minutes, Alvin Watman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Perth Glory's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alvin Watman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alvin Watman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edgar Coldicutt having to interfere. Tiger Conlan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Edgar Coldicutt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Perth Glory supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Perth Glory would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
