The audience thought a goal was coming when Myles Babbage got free with Max Unicomb in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 11 minutes into the match, Cancun's goalkeeper Max Unicomb had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Myles Babbage. Excelsior United's Myles Babbage got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Earle Todman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Earle Todman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 27 minutes, Dacosta Galvin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cancun's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dacosta Galvin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 46 minutes into the match, Excelsior United's goal looked a bit too open when Dacosta Galvin came free, but Carl Warren reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Norm Facey made the kick off in the second half. After 53 played minutes Cancun got a freekick which was hit by Lauder Marsland. If Myles Babbage had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Cancun's goalkeeper Max Unicomb, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Earle Todman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Carl Warren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 72nd match minute, Cancun was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bent Paull to maneuver through the defense. In the 73rd minute of the match Case Collings shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Max Unicomb showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Norm Facey's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Max Unicomb was relentless in the 74th minute of the game. After 80 played minutes Cancun got a freekick which was hit by Abraham Schulze. After a defensive mix-up in Cancun's zone, Norm Facey stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Max Unicomb came out of the goal and Norm Facey tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Earle Todman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Carl Warren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Arnold Millgate received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Carl Warren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Excelsior United were victorious despite being under pressure from Cancun for much of the match.
