In the 12th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sunshine Coast FC's goalkeeper Fletcher Terris, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Brendon Beckwith took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Brant Mcneven, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With his leg Brendon Beckwith managed to avoid a goal in the 22ndth minute, when Sunshine Coast FC's Broderick Featon fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Fletcher Terris came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by Gold Coast United's Jason Stebbing. But to his dismay, Jason Stebbing quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The crowd rose to their feet as Sunshine Coast FC's Brant Mcneven slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Brendon Beckwith. That made the score 1-1 after 33 minutes of play. Sunshine Coast FC's Fletcher Terris played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Norman Grieve in the 39th minute of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jason Stebbing stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Gold Coast United's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jacob Riley in the 53rd minute. Gold Coast United's Jacob Riley was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Fletcher Terris in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After a rather tough play, Sunshine Coast FC's Broderick Featon got a free kick in the 56th minute. In the 57th minute, Jacob Riley sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Sunshine Coast FC's Fletcher Terris didn't even have to move. Brendon Beckwith showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brant Mcneven in the 60th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Sunshine Coast FC defense, Norman Grieve kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fletcher Terris. The Sunshine Coast FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fletcher Terris should have stopped the shot. 65 minutes into the match, Gold Coast United's goal looked a bit too open when Brant Mcneven came free, but Brendon Beckwith reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ronald Mcroberts sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Sunshine Coast FC booed when Gold Coast United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Gwin didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 78 minutes, Ronald Mcroberts managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sunshine Coast FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ronald Mcroberts was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 80 minutes into the match, Sunshine Coast FC's goalkeeper Fletcher Terris had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Norman Grieve. Jason Stebbing sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fletcher Terris took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jason Stebbing, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. David Gwin charged in rather forcefully in the 95th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed David Gwin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. David Gwin hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Gold Coast United eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
