Jason Atkin kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. 9 minutes into the match, Gold Coast United's goal looked a bit too open when Jason Atkin came free, but Brendon Beckwith reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Norman Grieve sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Norman Grieve succeeded in the game's 11th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. Gold Coast United's Brendon Beckwith played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jason Atkin in the 15th minute of play. With a little luck, Excelsior FC's Roger Wood got control of the ball when Norman Grieve tried to sneak it across the goal line. Brendon Beckwith showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jason Atkin in the 20th minute of the match. Rudolph Kiel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 25 minutes into the match, Gold Coast United's goal looked a bit too open when Rudolph Kiel came free, but Brendon Beckwith reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Excelsior FC's Roger Wood proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Excelsior FC from getting a goal against them. David Gwin charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed David Gwin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Brendon Beckwith made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jason Atkin in the 35th minute of play. In the 39th minute, Excelsior FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Norman Grieve fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Case Heberle charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Case Heberle the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jason Atkin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

58 minutes into the game, one of Gold Coast United:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When the match had been going on for 60 minutes, Excelsior FC's Amos Sibbold got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Brendon Beckwith. Excelsior FC's Jason Atkin got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Norman Grieve sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 87 minutes, Rudolph Kiel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Excelsior FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rudolph Kiel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, David Gwin managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gold Coast United's supporters rose to their feet, but David Gwin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roger Wood breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 94 played minutes Excelsior FC got a freekick which was hit by Brye Pearce. Gold Coast United were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Excelsior FC for a fine match.
