With a left leg Doyle Coldicutt saved The Cornhorns from getting behind. 68 minutes into the match, The Cornhorns's goal looked a bit too open when Jason Atkin came free, but Doyle Coldicutt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Excelsior FC's zone, Bernie Schenck stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roger Wood came out of the goal and Bernie Schenck tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of The Cornhorns booed when Excelsior FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Case Heberle didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernie Schenck in the 74th minute of play forced Excelsior FC's goalkeeper Roger Wood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
