Nairne's supporters rose to their feet, but Jarrett Guy was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bert Edwards breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nairne's Brock Hunn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brant Hodson in the 37th minute of play. When Otto Kuskopf came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Catanzaro FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Otto Kuskopf couldn't finish the play. In the 41st minute, Brant Hodson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Handley Christini had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brock Hunn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nilson Copelin in the 46th minute of the match. Otto Kuskopf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brock Hunn having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Catanzaro FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
