Abe Pegler hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. James Ritter was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Tom Millar showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 7 minute of play. In the 13th minute, Chuck Shearn got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Jimmy Team booed when North Melbourne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hans Teuma didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jimmy Team's Tom Millar came free and shot a quick shot against goal 22 minutes in the game, fortunately James Ritter had problems saving as it came toward the left post. After 30 played minutes North Melbourne got a freekick which was hit by Tony Schulzte. When Dacosta Mitchell came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Jimmy Team fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dacosta Mitchell couldn't finish the play. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Tom Millar put it in 3-0 from a short distance just to the right of James Ritter. Stew Dollymore struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. James Ritter didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Jimmy Team. After 41 minutes of play, Jimmy Team's Tom Millar made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. James Ritter was left in no man's land by his defense there! Jimmy Team's Tom Millar got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tom Millar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, North Melbourne's goal looked a bit too open when Bryant Durbridge came free, but James Ritter reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tom Millar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 55th match minute, North Melbourne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arne Carragher to maneuver through the defense. Hans Teuma hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. The audience cheered when Dacosta Mitchell's long shot passed James Ritter's right side. It was 5-0, 57 minutes into the match. James Ritter took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tom Millar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Stew Dollymore managed to get in a good position for a shot. Jimmy Team's supporters rose to their feet, but Stew Dollymore was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. James Ritter breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tom Millar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tom Millar struck a weak shot in the 72nd minute. James Ritter didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Jimmy Team. If Marcus Sperling had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After some careless play in the North Melbourne defense, Tom Millar kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of James Ritter. The North Melbourne fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that James Ritter should have stopped the shot. In the 82nd minute of the match, Calvin Dalglish tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Jess Vickery saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Tom Millar put it in 7-0 from a short distance just to the right of James Ritter. Stew Dollymore sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tom Millar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without James Ritter having to interfere. Bryant Durbridge struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. James Ritter didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Jimmy Team. In the 96th minute, Tom Millar ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. James Ritter was frozen by the shot and now it was 8-0. Jimmy Team walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
