With a left leg Loyd Plummer saved Welford from getting behind. North Melbourne's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Thomas Nolan in the 20th minute. It was a well-played corner which Aden Lambourne managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Calvin Dalglish's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Loyd Plummer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. Matt Franklin hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Jesse Pfingst received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Loyd Plummer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. James Sinden hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. 46 minutes into the match, Welford's goal looked a bit too open when Calvin Dalglish came free, but Loyd Plummer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 47th minute, Calvin Dalglish got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Martyon Crane stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Calvin Dalglish managed to get in a good position for a shot. North Melbourne's supporters rose to their feet, but Calvin Dalglish was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Loyd Plummer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Calvin Dalglish fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Loyd Plummer having to interfere. A collision led to Welford getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Kane Wayland hit a great ball. In the 64th minute, Welford's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Jesse Pfingst fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After 70 played minutes North Melbourne got a freekick which was hit by Dean Didlock. Jesse Pfingst succeeded in the game's 75th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. The supporters of Welford booed when North Melbourne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tony Schulzte didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 81st minute the ball was on its way in behind North Melbourne's goalkeeper James Ritter, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 83 minutes into the game, Calvin Dalglish recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Loyd Plummer. Calvin Dalglish showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-2. When Arne Carragher fell near the penalty area in the 89th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored North Melbourne's protests and gave Arne Carragher a yellow card for diving instead. Arne Carragher hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Martyon Crane managed to get in a good position for a shot. Welford's supporters rose to their feet, but Martyon Crane was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. James Ritter breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Humphry Couzens charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. North Melbourne had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
