Darell Prior's late challenge caught a KDC United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Darell Prior helped the player get up and apologised. In the 13th minute, Darell Prior hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 14th minute of the match Fleming Connolly shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jarvis Collins showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. If Edwin Saisell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pierre Howarth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Payne Mills having to interfere. Payne Mills didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 27th minute, which inside left pole to 1-0. Payne Mills made an important save on a dangerous shot by Carlos Keam in the 31st minute. With a little luck, KDC United's Payne Mills got control of the ball when Carlos Keam tried to sneak it across the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Payne Mills didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sydney FC. Payne Mills took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pierre Howarth, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. KDC United's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
