When Darell Prior fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sydney FC's protests and gave Darell Prior a yellow card for diving instead. In the 4th minute, Darell Prior hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 11th minute the ball was on its way in behind Kooringal's goalkeeper Henry Hinwood, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amos Frew in the 18th minute of play forced Sydney FC's goalkeeper Jarvis Collins to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 21 minutes into the match, Bert Whatman had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jarvis Collins. Sydney FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bert Whatman was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Sydney FC's Jarvis Collins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bert Whatman in the 25th minute of play. Pierre Howarth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 37 minutes into the match, Kooringal's goal looked a bit too open when Pierre Howarth came free, but Henry Hinwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bert Whatman took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jarvis Collins. Jarvis Collins dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bert Whatman to make the kick off. Thanks to some nice moves Angelo Adair could shoot a difficult shot in the 53rd minute, which Jarvis Collins however easily saved by the left post. 59 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's goalkeeper Jarvis Collins had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Amos Frew. Andrews Bonison's late challenge caught a Kooringal's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Andrews Bonison helped the player get up and apologised. Andrews Bonison kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. Darell Prior hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pierre Howarth in the 83rd minute of play forced Kooringal's goalkeeper Henry Hinwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kooringal's Bert Whatman got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Bert Whatman came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Kooringal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bert Whatman couldn't finish the play. In the 96th minute, Angelo Adair ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jarvis Collins was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. When the match was over Kooringal could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Sydney FC throughout the match.
