Seating: 1843, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Pierre Howarth kicked off to start the match. In the 3rd minute, one of Kewell:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Kewell. Carter Glover went to the wrong direction when Antony Hogan was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Carter Glover showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pierre Howarth in the 10th minute of the match. Pierre Howarth took the ball and in the 12 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Carter Glover. Carter Glover dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Jarvis Collins made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ryan Bowman in the 15th minute of play. Baxter Adair blasted a shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jarvis Collins having to make a save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Darell Prior during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Sydney FC's Darell Prior got a free kick in the 20th minute. If Ryan Bowman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 23 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Sydney FC! The goalkeeper, Jarvis Collins, was totally fooled by Kewell's Matthews Cubitt, who 25 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. 32 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's Carlos Keam sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Carter Glover narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sydney FC's Pierre Howarth got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Ryan Bowman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pierre Howarth fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carter Glover having to interfere. When Barnabas Gissane fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kewell's protests and gave Barnabas Gissane a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Sydney FC booed when Kewell was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barnabas Gissane didn't get a good kick on the ball. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
56 minutes into the game, one of Kewell:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 64 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ryan Bowman came free, but Jarvis Collins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Baxter Adair fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jarvis Collins having to interfere. Darell Prior hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. In the 71st minute, Matthews Cubitt sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Sydney FC's Jarvis Collins didn't even have to move. When Pierre Howarth came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Sydney FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pierre Howarth couldn't finish the play. When Jordon Smoothey fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kewell's protests and gave Jordon Smoothey a yellow card for diving instead. After 82 minutes of play, Sydney FC's Carlos Keam made it 1-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Carter Glover was left in no man's land by his defense there! Sydney FC's Carlos Keam was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 88th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Ryan Bowman recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ryan Bowman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 98th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Sydney FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
