After a defensive mix-up in Sydney FC's zone, Neil Gorham stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jarvis Collins came out of the goal and Neil Gorham tried to chip the ball over his head. The Sydney FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jarvis Collins should have stopped the shot. Raymond Serena hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Neil Gorham's late challenge caught a Sydney FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Neil Gorham helped the player get up and apologised. Neil Gorham kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. 45 minutes into the game, Andrews Bonison was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sydney FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sydney Rockets the free kick. After the first half Sydney Rockets were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Pierre Howarth made a kick off. Neil Gorham sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sydney FC's Carlos Keam got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Neil Gorham came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Sydney Rockets fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Neil Gorham couldn't finish the play. Neil Gorham scored 0-2 in the 64th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jarvis Collins, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Neil Gorham fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jarvis Collins having to interfere. If Loud Wharton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 72 played minutes Sydney FC got a freekick which was hit by Andrews Bonison. Loud Wharton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Jarvis Collins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jarvis Collins stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Corey Leydin's shot from short distance in the 84th minute. Jarvis Collins showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Corey Leydin, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Corey Leydin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Jarvis Collins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
