Bishop Lambourne might have been able to make a better finish in the 17th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jarvis Collins. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bishop Lambourne ran back to his position shaking his head. If Pierre Howarth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hans Whitsitt during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Sydney FC's zone, Bishop Lambourne stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jarvis Collins came out of the goal and Bishop Lambourne tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 44 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's goal looked a bit too open when Reese Dollimore came free, but Jarvis Collins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

After 53 minutes Sydney FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Paz Castray who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Paz Castray almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sydney FC's Jarvis Collins did a great save. When Reese Dollimore came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the FC Le Grub fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reese Dollimore couldn't finish the play. In the 76th play minute Reese Dollimore came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Jarvis Collins. 0-3. FC Le Grub's Aaron Carr played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pierre Howarth in the 89th minute of play. John Calver kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. Pierre Howarth struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Aaron Carr didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sydney FC. The supporters of Sydney FC booed when FC Le Grub was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bray Unicomb didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Pierre Howarth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. FC Le Grub walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
