Buchanan Pearce could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Mitchell Mcquoid made a huge save. Mitchell Mcquoid stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Randolph Cusbert's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. In the 15th match minute, Melbourne City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Artie Ross to maneuver through the defense. If Randolph Cusbert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Russell Pinhey fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mitchell Mcquoid having to interfere. Everett Orr showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Larry Notley in the 26th minute of the match. In the 29th match minute, Melbourne City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Payne Plummer to maneuver through the defense. When Archie Oneill came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Horrocks fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Archie Oneill couldn't finish the play. Russell Pinhey was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 33rd minute. Horrocks's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Mitchell Mcquoid was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Randolph Cusbert showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 33 minute of play. If Max Whitmore had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a rather tough play, Horrocks's Archie Oneill got a free kick in the 43rd minute. In the 45th minute Archie Oneill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mitchell Mcquoid saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Russell Pinhey in the 51st minute of play forced Melbourne City's goalkeeper Mitchell Mcquoid to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mitchell Mcquoid came out of the goal in the 53rd minute to try and stop a shot by Horrocks's Russell Pinhey. But to his dismay, Russell Pinhey quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind Horrocks's goalkeeper Everett Orr, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 59th minute, Calvin Meyers hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Melbourne City's Max Whitmore got a free kick in the 65th minute. In the 70th minute Russell Pinhey shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mitchell Mcquoid saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mitchell Mcquoid showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Archie Oneill, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. Larry Notley took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Everett Orr. Everett Orr dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. 81 minutes into the match, Horrocks's goalkeeper Everett Orr had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bray Cubitt. The audience was convinced that Randolph Cusbert's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mitchell Mcquoid was relentless in the 84th minute of the game. In the 85th minute, Archie Oneill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Buchanan Pearce in the 91st minute of play forced Melbourne City's goalkeeper Mitchell Mcquoid to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
