Adelaide United FC's Loyd Stageman was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 41st play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. In the 43rd match minute, Millfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arne Millard to maneuver through the defense. After 47 played minutes Adelaide United FC got a freekick which was hit by Arnold Hogan. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

In the 63rdth minute of the game Loyd Stageman who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Millfield's Russ Macumber was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Millfield's Russ Macumber played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Loyd Stageman in the 77th minute of play. In the 82nd minute Corey Wilde shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Long Hunter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Millfield booed when Adelaide United FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnold Hogan didn't get a good kick on the ball. 85 minutes into the match, Loyd Stageman notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Millfield's Russ Macumber. Alvin Mogork hit a great ball. Long Hunter was out of position in the 91 minute of play, and Arne Millard capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Arne Millard really showed his touch with that goal: 3-1. Corey Wilde received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Long Hunter came out and tried to block the shot, but Corey Wilde slotted it home off the left post making it 3-2 in the 97th minute. Millfield's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
