Artie Ross kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. 17 minutes into the game, Bray Cubitt recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Long Hunter. Bray Cubitt showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. In the 29th minute, Melbourne City's Jordon Carlisle seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Jordon Carlisle the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Melbourne City protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Jordon Carlisle had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 29th minute, one of Melbourne City:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Melbourne City. The referee gave Adelaide United FC a penalty, 31 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Arnold Hogan, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Melbourne City's Mitchell Mcquoid. 2-1. Ian Jeffress kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. When Melbourne City's Max Whitmore in the 35th minute got a chance for a shot 35th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Adelaide United FC's goalie prevented a goal. Long Hunter took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Payne Plummer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 38th minute, Melbourne City's Bray Cubitt ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Long Hunter. Long Hunter yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-1. Long Hunter didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Payne Plummer went, in the 47th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-1 was the resulting score. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Loyd Stageman was the one to do the kick off. Long Hunter showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bryanne Bailey in the 53rd minute of the match. In the 56th minute, Ike Mclatchey hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Adelaide United FC's zone, Bryanne Bailey stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Long Hunter came out of the goal and Bryanne Bailey tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bray Cubitt scored 5-1 in the 63rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Long Hunter, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 69 played minutes Melbourne City got a freekick which was hit by Jagger Sawbridge. The supporters of Melbourne City booed when Adelaide United FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivan Lester didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bray Cubitt in the 80th minute of play forced Adelaide United FC's goalkeeper Long Hunter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Adelaide United FC getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Arnold Hogan hit a great ball. In the 84th minute, Jagger Sawbridge got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Payne Plummer kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. In the 88th minute of the match, Carter Turner got a very nice opportunity to score, but Mitchell Mcquoid was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Long Hunter took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Payne Plummer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alvin Mogork hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. In the 96th minute, Ivan Lester hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Melbourne City's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
