The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Mitchell Mcquoid came out of the goal and Gregory Atkin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Swan Valley FC's Tord Tholsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bray Cubitt in the 14th minute of play. 15 minutes into the game, Clarke Reisz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Mitchell Mcquoid was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Benney Bowen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Mitchell Mcquoid tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Casper Tarrant fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Melbourne City's protests and gave Casper Tarrant a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Swan Valley FC booed when Melbourne City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Casper Tarrant didn't get a good kick on the ball. Benney Bowen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mitchell Mcquoid having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clarke Reisz in the 31st minute of play forced Melbourne City's goalkeeper Mitchell Mcquoid to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Payne Plummer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
