Spectators: 8596 (Terracing: 6448, Seating: 1977, VIP seats: 171) Castlecrag's Downing Millard proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 4th minute of the match, managed to save Castlecrag from getting a goal against them. Bradshaw Allan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Bradshaw Allan took the ball and in the 17 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Berny Holdsworth. Berny Holdsworth dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. In the 21st minute, Ritchie Tarrats got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some careless play in the Castlecrag defense, Edmílson Mamais kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Downing Millard. The Castlecrag fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Downing Millard should have stopped the shot. Abbott Boston hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Maribyrnong FC's Berny Holdsworth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Randall Sparrow in the 39th minute of play. In the 47th minute Randall Sparrow shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Berny Holdsworth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ian de Godoi stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jacobs Whelpton kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Bo Bowen, 53 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. A collision led to Castlecrag getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Jacobs Whelpton hit a great ball. Castlecrag's Abbott Boston managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Ian de Godoi in the 56 minute of the game. Downing Millard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ian de Godoi in the 60th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Edmílson Mamais managed to get in a good position for a shot. Maribyrnong FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Edmílson Mamais was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Downing Millard breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Maribyrnong FC's Ian de Godoi got a free kick in the 75th minute. After 78 played minutes Maribyrnong FC got a freekick which was hit by Edmílson Mamais. After having played for 89 minutes, Randall Sparrow managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Castlecrag's supporters crossed their fingers, but Randall Sparrow was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Edmílson Mamais received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Downing Millard tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jacobs Whelpton charged in rather forcefully in the 95th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jacobs Whelpton the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 95 played minutes Castlecrag got a freekick which was hit by Jacobs Whelpton. When the final whistle sounded Castlecrag left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Maribyrnong FC.
