The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Inter Wodonga's defense didn't have a chance, in the 5th minute, when Murphey Muddle scored to the left of an out of position Danny Devere, making the score, 1-0. When Alex Kinsey came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Inter Wodonga fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alex Kinsey couldn't finish the play. Randell Malacarne showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Biggs Perandis, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. A collision led to Inter Wodonga getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Brennan Reynolds hit a great ball. The supporters of Inter Wodonga booed when Glenferrie was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ray Bridson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Broderick Johnston hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. In the 26th minute of the match Bleyd Hamilton sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Randell Malacarne skillfully saved the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Murphey Muddle got free with Danny Devere in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Inter Wodonga reached it. Russel Pukallus charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Russel Pukallus the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Inter Wodonga's Russel Pukallus got a free kick in the 47th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

57 minutes into the match, Inter Wodonga's goal looked a bit too open when Broderick Johnston came free, but Danny Devere reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Randell Malacarne made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alex Kinsey in the 58th minute of play. Randell Malacarne took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Biggs Perandis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Inter Wodonga's Russel Pukallus shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 66th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Randell Malacarne but with some difficulty. 67 minutes into the game, Biggs Perandis cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Randell Malacarne was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 74th match minute, Inter Wodonga was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Boyce Worsley to maneuver through the defense. 78 minutes into the match, Glenferrie's goalkeeper Randell Malacarne had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alex Kinsey. The supporters of Glenferrie booed when Inter Wodonga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Biggs Perandis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Murphey Muddle kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. Inter Wodonga's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
