After a rather tough play, Mellis's Matthew Williamson got a free kick in the 26th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ehrhard Reich got free with Vasile Ciolac in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Göran Jonasson took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Vasile Ciolac to make any attempt to save it. In the 42nd minute, Göran Jonasson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the match clock showed 46 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Göran Jonasson sped through Mellis's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Vasile Ciolac. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Randolph Jobson made the kick off in the second half.
