The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nilson Duarte could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match, but Diamantino Magalhães made a huge save. In the 11th minute of the match Independente FC got a corner. Academia Militar MZ's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nilson Duarte ran over to the corner to take the kick. If Bernd Goldsche had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luiz Marquez succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 22nd playminute. Academia Militar MZ's Diamantino Magalhães proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save Academia Militar MZ from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Academia Militar MZ's Diamantino Magalhães got control of the ball when Luiz Marquez tried to sneak it across the goal line. Álvaro Matos hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. Bernd Goldsche sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edinho Secco hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luiz Marquez to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nilson Duarte in the 54th minute of play forced Academia Militar MZ's goalkeeper Diamantino Magalhães to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Diamantino Magalhães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raí Prestes, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. After 57 played minutes Academia Militar MZ got a freekick which was hit by Arí Pitta. Diamantino Magalhães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Marquez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hudson Toscano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diamantino Magalhães having to interfere. 64 minutes into the game, Luiz Marquez cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Diamantino Magalhães was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Diamantino Magalhães made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Raí Prestes in the 67th minute of play. The supporters of Academia Militar MZ booed when Independente FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cahyo Rantung didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bernd Goldsche's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nando Sena read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 82nd minute of play. It was a well-played corner which Arí Pitta managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. In the 83rd minute, Arí Pitta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Independente FC's Raí Prestes in the 94th minute got a chance for a shot 94th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Academia Militar MZ's goalie prevented a goal. Diamantino Magalhães came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Independente FC's Luiz Marquez. But to his dismay, Luiz Marquez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Independente FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Academia Militar MZ had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
