The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Diego Gonzales got free with Perfecto Mongis in the 2nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Celedonio Madeo kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. Perfecto Mongis made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sven de Zwaan in the 7th minute. Diego Gonzales struck a weak shot in the 8th minute. Perfecto Mongis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Argentinos Juniors. Abel Maldonado's late challenge caught a Argentinos Juniors's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Maldonado helped the player get up and apologised. Argentinos Juniors's Mats Falch shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 11th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Perfecto Mongis but with some difficulty. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sven de Zwaan in the 14th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Perfecto Mongis saved Ψ Futbol Rojo Ψ from getting behind. Perfecto Mongis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sven de Zwaan, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Rigoberto Nazario took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jerônimo Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 20th minute Diego Gonzales shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Perfecto Mongis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 23 minutes into the match, Argentinos Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Jerônimo Martins came free, but Rigoberto Nazario reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 27th minute Argentinos Juniors were awarded a corner. Mats Falch went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Argentinos Juniors's corner Diego Gonzales fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Perfecto Mongis quite easily take care of the ball. Froilan Leoncio took the ball and in the 32 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Rigoberto Nazario. Rigoberto Nazario dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Rigoberto Nazario made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jerônimo Martins in the 40th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Sven de Zwaan's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Perfecto Mongis was relentless in the 44th minute of the game. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jerônimo Martins was the one to do the kick off. In the 57th minute Jerônimo Martins shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rigoberto Nazario saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Ψ Futbol Rojo Ψ's Abel Maldonado got a free kick in the 65th minute. Perfecto Mongis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mats Falch, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Sven de Zwaan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Perfecto Mongis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play.
