Gabriel Brizuela could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Enrique Urtsin made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 11th minute, Rogelio Madeo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vélez Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Rogelio Madeo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Misael Brizuela breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Silvio Firme hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Enrique Urtsin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorge Valenzuela in the 21st minute of play. Wilber Barragan kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. If Jaime Alvarez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ruben Toledano kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Enrique Urtsin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gabriel Brizuela, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Vélez Juniors's Silvio Firme got a free kick in the 56th minute. Hernan Gonchan's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Misael Brizuela firmly grabbed it by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rogelio Madeo in the 63rd minute of play forced GuateFortín's goalkeeper Misael Brizuela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 62nd minute, one of GuateFortín:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for GuateFortín. Ulises Cristofol hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. When Jaime Alvarez fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored GuateFortín's protests and gave Jaime Alvarez a yellow card for diving instead. After 81 played minutes GuateFortín got a freekick which was hit by Jaime Alvarez. In the 83rd minute, Emilio Serafo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Misael Brizuela was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Januario Flores fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enrique Urtsin having to interfere. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Vélez Juniors eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
