Elpidio Vitin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zico Zellier in the 12th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Naike in the 36th minute of play forced GuateFortín's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nery Pumpido stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tiburcio Quinteros's shot from short distance in the 39th minute. The audience was convinced that Zico Zellier's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Elpidio Vitin was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sven-Edvin Jansson got free with Elpidio Vitin in the 48th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cristian Naike made a kick off. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Elpidio Vitin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thiago Almada, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cristian Naike in the 76th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nery Pumpido prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Angel Alvarenga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 81 minutes into the game, Vélez Juniors's Cristian Naike nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nery Pumpido made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Angel Alvarenga in the 86th minute of play forced Vélez Juniors's goalkeeper Elpidio Vitin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Donato Efraim kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. Godofredo Ado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the Vélez Juniors players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense.
