Theo Groom made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Samuel Linkletter kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. 16 minutes into the game, Paul Poate cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Theo Groom was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 18 minutes, Mark Slade mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AFC Chievo Verona and the East Ham United players grew even worse after the yellow card. 22 minutes into the game, Harry Robson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. East Ham United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AFC Chievo Verona the free kick. Harry Robson hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. The supporters of East Ham United booed when AFC Chievo Verona was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pete Impey didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paul Poate in the 42nd minute of play forced East Ham United's goalkeeper Theo Groom to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 44 minutes in the game Wesley Battersby did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Samuel Linkletter. Theo Groom came out of the goal in the 45th minute to try and stop a shot by AFC Chievo Verona's Hugh Kennedy. But to his dismay, Hugh Kennedy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-6. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. The wind increased when Harry Robson made the kick off in the second half. Gürhan Yücel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Harry Robson, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. After 55 minutes, Wesley Battersby mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AFC Chievo Verona and the East Ham United players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to AFC Chievo Verona getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Wesley Battersby hit a great ball. The AFC Chievo Verona fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gürhan Yücel should have stopped the shot.
