Cléberson Mendonça took the ball and in the 4 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Theo Groom. Theo Groom dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cléberson Mendonça in the 7th minute of play forced East Ham United's goalkeeper Theo Groom to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of East Ham United booed when Clapham Rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cléberson Mendonça didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 10th minute, Cléberson Mendonça ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Theo Groom was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. East Ham United's Theo Groom played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Francisco Toscano in the 14th minute of play. In the 17th minute João Francisco Toscano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Theo Groom saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. João Francisco Toscano charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed João Francisco Toscano the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 17th match minute, Clapham Rovers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by João Francisco Toscano to maneuver through the defense. Adrian Moss recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of East Ham United booed when Clapham Rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gavin Sedgemore didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Harry Robson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Francisco Toscano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Theo Groom having to interfere. East Ham United's Theo Groom played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Francisco Toscano in the 27th minute of play. The throw-in from Justino Arixo in the 35th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by East Ham United's Quentin Bell. In the 37th minute, Quentin Bell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Harry Robson got free with Ennio Orsini in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Clapham Rovers's Cléberson Mendonça in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye East Ham United's goalie prevented a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cléberson Mendonça in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Theo Groom saved East Ham United from getting behind. In the 47th minute João Francisco Toscano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Theo Groom saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Clapham Rovers were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Harry Robson to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, East Ham United's Glenn Gates got a free kick in the 51st minute. In the 55th minute Quentin Bell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ennio Orsini saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Theo Groom didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cléberson Mendonça went, in the 59th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. Glenn Gates hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in East Ham United's zone, Cléberson Mendonça stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Theo Groom came out of the goal and Cléberson Mendonça tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Clapham Rovers's Richard Thompson got a free kick in the 75th minute. Clapham Rovers's Damien Quinn was substituted for Alex Gibson. In the 76th match minute, Clapham Rovers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Richard Thompson to maneuver through the defense. Harry Robson hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jools Holland got free with Theo Groom in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 92 minutes, Jools Holland made it 0-4 with a short kick to the right side. East Ham United's Theo Groom tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Clapham Rovers eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
