With his leg Eladio Escalona managed to avoid a goal in the 20thth minute, when U. de Tarapacá's Domingo Barcena fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After 31 minutes of play, Colo-Colo's Ivo Basay made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ariel Balboa was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ivo Basay recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 39th minute the ball was on its way in behind Colo-Colo's goalkeeper Eladio Escalona, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 43 minutes into the match, U. de Tarapacá's goal looked a bit too open when Ivo Basay came free, but Ariel Balboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Avram Chițac got a throw-in 44 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Ivo Basay. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Orfilio Orbañanos made a kick off. Eladio Escalona made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Orfilio Orbañanos in the 52nd minute of play. Ivo Basay received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Ariel Balboa came out and tried to block the shot, but Ivo Basay slotted it home off the left post making it 0-2 in the 60th minute. Ariel Balboa made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Ivo Basay sent off a good shot on target. 64 minutes into the game when Norberto Mangueira tried to clear up in front of the goal it happened that the ball rolled into goal via right pole. An extremely disappointing self made goal which led to 0-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ivo Basay in the 67th minute of play forced U. de Tarapacá's goalkeeper Ariel Balboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tomislav Parev's late challenge caught a U. de Tarapacá's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tomislav Parev helped the player get up and apologised. Tomislav Parev kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. Colo-Colo made a substitution. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Colo-Colo eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
