In the 2nd minute, Roque Peñacerrada left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Punta Carretas FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Valentim Baía took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Siro Molinuevo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 9thth minute of the game Durval Fraga who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Punta Carretas FC's Marcelito Cirion was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 11th minute, Osvaldo Telinhos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Marcelito Cirion took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Caetano Santarém, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 17 played minutes Forlusitanos got a freekick which was hit by Flávio Magalhães. 18 minutes into the match, Siro Molinuevo notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Forlusitanos's Valentim Baía. Valentim Baía was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 26 played minutes Forlusitanos got a freekick which was hit by João Lima. In the 27th minute, Zigor Cuellar got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 33 minutes into the game, Punta Carretas FC's Roque Peñacerrada nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Valentim Baía made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. 40 minutes into the match, Forlusitanos's goal looked a bit too open when Roque Peñacerrada came free, but Valentim Baía reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 47 minutes, Caetano Santarém managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Forlusitanos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Caetano Santarém was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Siro Molinuevo to make the kick off. Durval Fraga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Marcelito Cirion tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 56th minute, one of Forlusitanos:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Forlusitanos. Forlusitanos:s Valentim Baía showed great skill when he stopped Zigor Cuellar:s penalty. In the 58th minute, Zigor Cuellar left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Punta Carretas FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. Marcelito Cirion showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hilário Barcelos in the 64th minute of the match. 68 minutes into the game, João Lima was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Forlusitanos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Punta Carretas FC the free kick. 69 minutes into the match, Zigor Cuellar sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Valentim Baía threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for Zigor Cuellar this time. Marcelito Cirion didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hilário Barcelos went, in the 71st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-5 was the resulting score. Fabiano Pádua hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. In the 78th minute, Zigor Cuellar sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Forlusitanos's Valentim Baía didn't even have to move. The supporters of Forlusitanos booed when Punta Carretas FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amadeo Olazabal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcelito Cirion showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caetano Santarém, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Forlusitanos's Hilário Barcelos got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 84 minutes into the game, Siro Molinuevo recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Valentim Baía. Siro Molinuevo showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-6. In the 87th minute, Caetano Santarém made a precise shot to the right of Marcelito Cirion. Punta Carretas FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-6. 93 minutes into the game, Forlusitanos's Hilário Barcelos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcelito Cirion made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-6. The crowd rose to their feet as Ugutz Urbina kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Valentim Baía. That made the score 3-7 in the 97 minute of play.
