After some fancy dribbling in the 12th minute, Nazım Taci managed to get in a good position for a shot. New York Red Bulls's supporters rose to their feet, but Nazım Taci was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wlodzimierz Cipinski breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in GAIS's zone, George Schiau stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wlodzimierz Cipinski came out of the goal and George Schiau tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to New York Red Bulls getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Nazım Taci hit a great ball. Eduardo Pereyra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emilio Jakue in the 27th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, New York Red Bulls's goal looked a bit too open when Deng Le Jian came free, but Eduardo Pereyra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Emilio Jakue made the kick off in the second half. After taking down the ball on New York Red Bulls's corner Basarab Panduru fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Wlodzimierz Cipinski quite easily take care of the ball. In the 58th minute George Schiau shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wlodzimierz Cipinski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 62nd minute, Isaac Göransson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 64th minute the ball was on its way in behind GAIS's goalkeeper Wlodzimierz Cipinski, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 71 played minutes New York Red Bulls got a freekick which was hit by Liviu Bărănescu. Eduardo Pereyra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Deng Le Jian in the 76th minute of the match. Emilio Jakue fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eduardo Pereyra having to interfere. In the 87th minute Deng Le Jian shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Pereyra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 90th minute, GAIS's Deng Le Jian ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Eduardo Pereyra. Eduardo Pereyra yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Dong Hong Jian kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. When the final whistle sounded GAIS left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than New York Red Bulls.
