The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jarbas Guedes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mark Forssberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. 9 minutes into the match, Inácio Figueiredo dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Dorel Lupșe, 1-0. Jarbas Guedes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ismael Belmiro in the 15th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Zé Roberto Moura's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dorel Lupșe was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. 19 minutes into the game, Zé Roberto Moura recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Dorel Lupșe. Zé Roberto Moura showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. The crowd rose to their feet as S S Palestra Italia's Inácio Figueiredo slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Dorel Lupșe. That made the score 3-0 after 22 minutes of play. After a rather tough play, S S Palestra Italia's Rony Tasso got a free kick in the 25th minute. In the 28th minute, Philip Rudkvist left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Besiktas fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. Inácio Figueiredo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dorel Lupșe having to make a save. Dorel Lupșe made a fantastic save in the 34th minute, when Inácio Figueiredo sent off a good shot on target. After 37 played minutes Besiktas got a freekick which was hit by Alonzo Boñar. Jarbas Guedes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ismael Belmiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dorel Lupșe made a fantastic save in the 44th minute, when Inácio Figueiredo sent off a good shot on target. Lucjan Golaszewski received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Jarbas Guedes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Mark Forssberg in the 55th minute of play forced S S Palestra Italia's goalkeeper Jarbas Guedes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. S S Palestra Italia's Jarbas Guedes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 58th minute of the match, managed to save S S Palestra Italia from getting a goal against them. 59 minutes into the match, S S Palestra Italia's goal looked a bit too open when Mark Forssberg came free, but Jarbas Guedes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Besiktas's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Inácio Figueiredo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-1. In the 79th minute of the match, Mark Forssberg tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Jarbas Guedes saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Jarbas Guedes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ismael Belmiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. When Alonzo Boñar fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Besiktas's protests and gave Alonzo Boñar a yellow card for diving instead. Alonzo Boñar hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. Dorel Lupșe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Inácio Figueiredo in the 90th minute of play. Robinho Castro hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. Jarbas Guedes acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 93rd minute, took the ball on the long shot from Magnus Kihlman. Philip Rudkvist could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Jarbas Guedes made a huge save. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The S S Palestra Italia fans cheered their team off the field, for while Besiktas had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
