With a little luck, JFSP's Olívio Saldanha got control of the ball when Horácio Pereira tried to sneak it across the goal line. Douglas Viana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hermínio Meirelles in the 13th minute of the match. JFSP were awarded a corner in the 14th minute after SORRISO E. C.'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ismael Velloso took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Pedro Paulo Peixoto got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Douglas Viana quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. SORRISO E. C. were awarded a corner in the 17th minute after JFSP's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Betinho Queiroz took the corner. The corner ended in Betinho Queiroz almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but JFSP's Olívio Saldanha did a great save. A collision led to SORRISO E. C. getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Betinho Queiroz hit a great ball. 23 minutes had been played when some careless play by JFSP's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Betinho Queiroz was slow to take the kick. During this time SORRISO E. C.'s players had a chance to rest. The corner led SORRISO E. C.'s Betinho Queiroz to fire away a dangerous shot which Olívio Saldanha despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alberto Mendonça got free with Olívio Saldanha in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 33 minutes into the match, JFSP's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Mendonça came free, but Olívio Saldanha reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 34 minutes into the game, Ismael Velloso was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. JFSP's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SORRISO E. C. the free kick. In the 36th minute Sílvio Luís Ceresso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Douglas Viana saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olívio Saldanha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Mendonça, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alberto Mendonça blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Olívio Saldanha having to make a save. After a rather tough play, JFSP's Ismael Velloso got a free kick in the 42nd minute. JFSP's Sílvio Luís Ceresso got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Edgard de Godoi during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 46th minute, Edgard de Godoi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half JFSP were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sílvio Luís Ceresso made a kick off. In the 51st minute, Rodrigo Penha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sílvio Luís Ceresso in the 61st minute of play forced SORRISO E. C.'s goalkeeper Douglas Viana to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 62 minutes in the game Betinho Queiroz did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Alfredo da Rocha. Douglas Viana stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sílvio Luís Ceresso's shot from short distance in the 65th minute. When Edgard de Godoi came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the JFSP fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edgard de Godoi couldn't finish the play. After 68 minutes, William Barbosa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the JFSP and the SORRISO E. C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alberto Mendonça in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Olívio Saldanha prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 77th minute, Danilo de Queiroz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Edgard de Godoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Douglas Viana having to interfere. Olívio Saldanha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Horácio Pereira, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. When William Barbosa was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 91 minutes had been played. William Barbosa hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match.
