Cambridge Esporte Clube's Sérgio Trevisan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dirk Snabl in the 38th minute of play. Dirk Snabl received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Sérgio Trevisan came out and tried to block the shot, but Dirk Snabl slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 43rd minute. The supporters of São Paulo F.C. booed when Cambridge Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zé Roberto Vergílio didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

In the 94th minute, Dirk Snabl got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 98th minute Cambridge Esporte Clube were awarded a corner. Elivélton Aparecido went to the cornerflag to take it. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
