In the 18th minute, Ümit Karan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Brugge United's Guido Vissenaeken in the 23rd minute got a chance for a shot 23rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 32ndth minute of the game Guido Vissenaeken who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ｕｎｉãｏ Ｓｐｏｒｔ Ｃｌｕｂｅ Ｐａｒｅｄｅｓ's Edwin van der Sar was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Guido Vissenaeken scored 0-2 in the 34th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Edwin van der Sar, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Edwin van der Sar came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by Brugge United's Guido Vissenaeken. But to his dismay, Guido Vissenaeken quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. If Ümit Karan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Leukothoe Atsidakos came free with the goalkeeper in the 42nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Vítor Baia could save by the left post. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Guido Vissenaeken made a kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Brugge United's goal looked a bit too open when Jerónimo Furtado came free, but Vítor Baia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edwin van der Sar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnauld Van Impe in the 80th minute of play. 80 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Brugge United's Arnauld Van Impe fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high.
