The audience thought a goal was coming when Piara Santo got free with Farid Mondragón in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 12 minutes into the match, C. A. Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Piara Santo came free, but Farid Mondragón reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Farid Mondragón took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Piara Santo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Farid Mondragón was a little too slow when Piara Santo got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 25th minute. The score was now 2-0. Marcos Senesi made in the 29th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Eduardo Vasco however managed to control. 35 minutes into the game, Waitakere F.C.'s Piara Santo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Farid Mondragón made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. 40 minutes had been played when some careless play by C. A. Independiente's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Eduardo Vasco was slow to take the kick. During this time Waitakere F.C.'s players had a chance to rest. If Gar Gamel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Waitakere F.C. getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Gar Gamel hit a great ball. Waitakere F.C.'s Marcos Burni played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sid Chadwick in the 46th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
After 60 minutes Waitakere F.C.'s defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eric Snowden who took care of the corner kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gabriel Batistuta in the 63rd minute of play forced C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 83 minutes Waitakere F.C.'s defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eric Snowden who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on C. A. Independiente's corner Sid Chadwick fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Marcos Burni quite easily take care of the ball. In the 84thth minute of the game Sid Chadwick who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Waitakere F.C.'s Marcos Burni was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Farid Mondragón showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nacho Scocco, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Waitakere F.C.'s Rafael Transito quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Alfredo Felder, made in the 90th minute of the game. Waitakere F.C.'s attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Gabriel Batistuta in the 92nd minute. 97 minutes had been played when some careless play by C. A. Independiente's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gabriel Batistuta was slow to take the kick. During this time Waitakere F.C.'s players had a chance to rest. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Waitakere F.C. fully deserved thier win.
