The audience was convinced that Augusto Cordario's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Farid Mondragón was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Augusto Cordario in the 20th minute of the match. The throw-in from Juanpi Sorin in the 22nd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Velez Sarsfield's Javier Pinola. Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Roy Huston got free with Teodosio Sergi in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Augusto Cordario blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Farid Mondragón having to make a save. A collision led to C. A. Independiente getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Kerry Sellers hit a great ball. Farid Mondragón took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Augusto Cordario, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 39 minutes C. A. Independiente's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ignacio Berenguer who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Velez Sarsfield's corner Ignacio Berenguer fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Farid Mondragón quite easily take care of the ball. Velez Sarsfield's Marcos Pacifico managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Juanpi Sorin in the 41 minute of the game. Augusto Cordario sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Augusto Cordario in the 43rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kerry Sellers in the 45th minute of play forced Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Teodosio Sergi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A sloppy throw-in by Juanpi Sorin in the 46th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Velez Sarsfield's Marcos Pacifico.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Augusto Cordario made a kick off. In the 52nd minute of the match Velez Sarsfield got a corner. C. A. Independiente's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ignacio Berenguer ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Ignacio Berenguer almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón did a great save. Augusto Cordario could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Farid Mondragón made a huge save. In the 56th minute the ball was on its way in behind C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Augusto Cordario's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Farid Mondragón read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 58th minute of play. 60 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Kerry Sellers came free, but Teodosio Sergi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 61 minutes of play, C. A. Independiente's Kerry Sellers made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Teodosio Sergi was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Augusto Cordario struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Farid Mondragón didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Velez Sarsfield. With his leg Farid Mondragón managed to avoid a goal in the 70thth minute, when Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Teodosio Sergi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kerry Sellers in the 73rd minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Augusto Cordario got free with Farid Mondragón in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 79th minute the ball was on its way in behind C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Velez Sarsfield's Leandro Berti was substituted for Ignacio Berenguer. Velez Sarsfield's Filomeno Montrell was substituted for Javier Pinola. Velez Sarsfield's Filomeno Montrell managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Sidney Forbes in the 83 minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Augusto Cordario got free with Farid Mondragón in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to save C. A. Independiente from getting a goal against them. Juanpi Sorin charged in rather forcefully in the 86th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Juanpi Sorin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 86th minute, Juanpi Sorin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Augusto Cordario managed to get in a good position for a shot. Velez Sarsfield's supporters rose to their feet, but Augusto Cordario was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Farid Mondragón breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 93 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Sun Zhi Zhen. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. C. A. Independiente had won after a very even match.
