Rayo Bengala's Artur Boruc played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paquito Rey in the 21st minute of play. 22 minutes into the game, S.D NARCEA's Eugeniusz Milko nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Artur Boruc made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. In the 25th minute, Frisco Pascua hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Rayo Bengala's zone, Manel Quintanilla stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Artur Boruc came out of the goal and Manel Quintanilla tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Artur Boruc showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manel Quintanilla in the 26th minute of the match. S.D NARCEA's Germán Figueres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julen Castellano in the 28th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nerio Etxeberria in the 32nd minute of play forced S.D NARCEA's goalkeeper Germán Figueres to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julen Castellano received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Germán Figueres came out and tried to block the shot, but Julen Castellano slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 34th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Macabeo Sampil in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Germán Figueres prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 38 minutes S.D NARCEA's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Macabeo Sampil who took care of the corner kick. When Bernard Rienda fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rayo Bengala's protests and gave Bernard Rienda a yellow card for diving instead. After 39 played minutes Rayo Bengala got a freekick which was hit by Bernard Rienda. Boleslaw Pacholewski's late challenge caught a Rayo Bengala's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Boleslaw Pacholewski helped the player get up and apologised. In the 41st minute, Boleslaw Pacholewski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 45th minute, Rayo Bengala's Julen Castellano ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Germán Figueres. Germán Figueres yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Macabeo Sampil to make the kick off.
