Severino Torcato kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Deilmison van Basten's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Samuel Fiúza was relentless in the 4th minute of the game. The attack was good, but when Deilmison van Basten in the 5th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Samuel Fiúza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Deilmison van Basten, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jiang De in the 11th minute of play forced ATHLETICO PRaiano's goalkeeper Rodriguinho Sousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 12th minute Gremio Viana were awarded a corner. Augustin Panaiteanu went to the cornerflag to take it. 14 minutes into the game, Ke Zhi Jian threw the ball into play from the sideline. ATHLETICO PRaiano's Vitor Beckenbauer quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. When the match had gone on for 16 minutes, Deilmison van Basten took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Samuel Fiúza to make any attempt to save it. 20 minutes into the match, Gremio Viana's goalkeeper Samuel Fiúza had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Deilmison van Basten. 21 minutes into the match, Gremio Viana's goal looked a bit too open when Deilmison van Basten came free, but Samuel Fiúza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rodriguinho Sousa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jiang De, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. The corner led Gremio Viana's Augustin Panaiteanu to fire away a dangerous shot which Rodriguinho Sousa despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Samuel Fiúza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Deilmison van Basten, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The throw-in from Gaétan Govou in the 40th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Gremio Viana's Tony Påk. A sloppy throw-in by Gaétan Govou in the 41st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Gremio Viana's Amado Melo. After 43 played minutes Gremio Viana got a freekick which was hit by Severino Torcato. Gremio Viana's Samuel Fiúza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Deilmison van Basten in the 46th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Deilmison van Basten stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd match minute, ATHLETICO PRaiano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vilhelm Skoog to maneuver through the defense. Jiang De who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 55thth minute tested the skills of Rodriguinho Sousa when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 56th minute Deilmison van Basten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Samuel Fiúza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 61 played minutes ATHLETICO PRaiano got a freekick which was hit by Vitor Beckenbauer. ATHLETICO PRaiano made a substitution. Heitor Maldini replaced Betão Marquez. Gremio Viana's Carlos Luna was substituted for Jiang De. Vitor Beckenbauer hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. 64 minutes into the match, ATHLETICO PRaiano's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Luna came free, but Rodriguinho Sousa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Deilmison van Basten in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Samuel Fiúza saved Gremio Viana from getting behind. Rodriguinho Sousa was a little too slow when Carlos Luna got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 69th minute. The score was now 1-1. If Tony Påk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gremio Viana's Antonio Calisto was substituted for Tony Påk. The audience thought a goal was coming when Carlos Luna got free with Rodriguinho Sousa in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 77 minutes into the game, Deilmison van Basten cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Samuel Fiúza was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Unax Mudarra managed to get in a good position for a shot. ATHLETICO PRaiano's supporters rose to their feet, but Unax Mudarra was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Samuel Fiúza breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 96 minutes, Mariusz Lamczyk mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gremio Viana and the ATHLETICO PRaiano players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 96 played minutes Gremio Viana got a freekick which was hit by Mariusz Lamczyk. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The ATHLETICO PRaiano fans cheered their team off the field, for while Gremio Viana had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
