An unexpectedly hard shot by Murilo Prestes in the 33rd minute of play forced Karaboudjan's goalkeeper Marcelinho Abraão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Murilo Prestes in the 36th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Marcelinho Abraão prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Yuri Teixeira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Karaboudjan's supporters rose to their feet, but Yuri Teixeira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Caco Azevedo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Marcelinho Abraão stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cléber da Costa's shot from short distance in the 42nd minute. SORRISO E. C.'s Gustavo Romero got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 47th minute, Yuri Teixeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Murilo Prestes to strike the kick off in the second half.
