In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Barcellos Mineiro FC's goalkeeper Patricio Ugutz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 18th minute New England Minas were awarded a corner. Glen Conklin went to the cornerflag to take it. If Dale Dolar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With a little luck, New England Minas's Jeremy Nicholas got control of the ball when Dale Dolar tried to sneak it across the goal line. Patricio Ugutz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tony Pacheco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 23rd match minute, New England Minas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by António Nóbrega to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Barcellos Mineiro FC booed when New England Minas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. In the 43rd minute, Dale Dolar left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Barcellos Mineiro FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. New England Minas's Jeremy Nicholas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save New England Minas from getting a goal against them. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dale Dolar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
