In the 16th minute, Célio de Sousa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Marquinhos Diniz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mané Garrincha, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Célio de Sousa hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. 20 minutes into the game, Mané Garrincha cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Marquinhos Diniz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Frank Sten sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 31st match minute, Villaverde Celeste Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Netto to maneuver through the defense. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mané Garrincha to make the kick off. The supporters of Villaverde Celeste Clube booed when Jovens Democratas MZC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zé Augusto Tinoco didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 76th minute Frank Sten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marquinhos Diniz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Jovens Democratas MZC getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Zé Augusto Tinoco hit a great ball. Jovens Democratas MZC's Evaristo Rossi was substituted for César Coelho. Jovens Democratas MZC's Benedito Tande was substituted for Mateus Macedo. With 94 minutes on the clock, Zé Augusto Tinoco commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Zé Augusto Tinoco hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. In the 96th minute of the match Róbson Donato sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marquinhos Diniz skillfully saved the ball. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
