Caxias do Sul's Décio Mandrak got control of the ball when Raphael de Salles tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 9th minute, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz made a precise shot to the right of Telmo Madureira. E.C 2 Janeiro RS's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Carlos Alberto Viana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Telmo Madureira having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ladislao Mazurkiewicz in the 26th minute of play forced E.C 2 Janeiro RS's goalkeeper Telmo Madureira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If João Carlos Gaspar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Telmo Madureira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ladislao Mazurkiewicz in the 40th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Kaká Ramalho managed to get in a good position for a shot. E.C 2 Janeiro RS's supporters rose to their feet, but Kaká Ramalho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Décio Mandrak breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Válter de Sousa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Décio Mandrak having to interfere. João Carlos Gaspar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Telmo Madureira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ladislao Mazurkiewicz to make the kick off. After having played for 56 minutes, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ladislao Mazurkiewicz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Válter de Sousa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to S.E.R. Caxias do Sul getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz hit a great ball. In the 67th minute, Remo Valle got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in E.C 2 Janeiro RS's zone, João Carlos Gaspar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Telmo Madureira came out of the goal and João Carlos Gaspar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 80th minute Ladislao Mazurkiewicz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Telmo Madureira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Telmo Madureira made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when João Carlos Gaspar sent off a good shot on target. After 82 played minutes E.C 2 Janeiro RS got a freekick which was hit by Kaká Ramalho. After 83 played minutes, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Carlos Alberto Viana shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Telmo Madureira came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in S.E.R. Caxias do Sul reached it. 88 minutes into the match, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of E.C 2 Janeiro RS's Telmo Madureira. Telmo Madureira was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
