In the 21st minute Horácio Pereira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nilson Dracena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Décio Peixoto hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. A collision led to SE Palmeiras getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Basílio do Valle hit a great ball. Nilson Dracena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Horácio Pereira, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Décio Peixoto during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Décio Peixoto hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. In the 31st minute of the match SE Palmeiras got a corner. SORRISO E. C.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Christiano Baiano ran over to the corner to take the kick. After having played for 34 minutes, Perivaldo Salles managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SE Palmeiras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Perivaldo Salles was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to SE Palmeiras getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Basílio do Valle hit a great ball. SORRISO E. C.'s Yan Penha got his second yellow card of the match in the 43rd minute. The referee ordered Yan Penha off the ground. After 44 played minutes SORRISO E. C. got a freekick which was hit by Yan Penha. After a rather tough play, SORRISO E. C.'s Alberto Mendonça got a free kick in the 46th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Basílio do Valle stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Carlos Fernando Aparecido hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. In the 58th minute of the match SORRISO E. C. got a corner. SE Palmeiras's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Mateus Salgado ran over to the corner to take the kick. SE Palmeiras's Nilson Dracena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo da Rocha in the 63rd minute of play. After 63 played minutes SE Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by João Vítor de Almeida. Nilson Dracena was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Mateus Salgado. Alfredo da Rocha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nilson Dracena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horácio Pereira in the 67th minute of play. The supporters of SORRISO E. C. booed when SE Palmeiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Décio Peixoto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nilson Dracena made an important save on a dangerous shot by Horácio Pereira in the 74th minute. 77 minutes into the game, Perivaldo Salles was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SE Palmeiras's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SORRISO E. C. the free kick. In the 77th match minute, SE Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Perivaldo Salles to maneuver through the defense. Horácio Pereira received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nilson Dracena came out and tried to block the shot, but Horácio Pereira slotted it home off the left post making it 0-1 in the 78th minute. In the 81st minute, Basílio do Valle made a precise shot to the right of Douglas Viana. SORRISO E. C.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basílio do Valle in the 88th minute of play forced SORRISO E. C.'s goalkeeper Douglas Viana to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alberto Mendonça hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. After 90 minutes of play, SE Palmeiras's Basílio do Valle made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Douglas Viana was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the referee blew the final whistle, SE Palmeiras could leave the field as winners, despite SORRISO E. C. having more of the ball for most of the match.
